Judith “Judy” Myers Owings, 80, of Atlanta, GA passed away January 13, 2026. Mrs. Owings was born in Ft. Myers, FL to the late Charles David and Helen Myers. She lived in several Southern locales as her father climbed the corporate ladder but always considered Atlanta her home. She graduated from St. Pius X High School and subsequently enrolled in the University of Georgia where she was a cheerleader and member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She graduated from the School of Journalism in 1967 and remained a lifelong, diehard Bulldog fan.
Following graduation, Judy worked for Westinghouse Learning Corporation in the U.S. Virgin Islands and was a hearing officer for the State of Georgia.
In 1976 she married Dr. Francis B Owings, MD, the love of her life, and had two children, F. Patterson Owings of Charleston, SC and Caroline Owings Hall of Atlanta, GA. Judy was the past chairman of the board of education at Christ the King School and a member of the Crawford W. Long Hospital Auxiliary and St. Jude’s Circle. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and thoroughly enjoyed playing duplicates bridge, reading, and entertaining her family and friends with one-of-a-kind stories.
A true Southern Belle, she was known for her gregarious personality, love of Coca-Cola, ruby red lipstick, and occasional glass of Cutty Sark. An acquired taste. She never met a stranger, had a selfless heart of gold, and was considered a second Mom to many who always knew the garage door was open for them.
Mrs. Owings is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Francis B. Owings, MD; son, F. Patterson Owings, MD; daughter, Caroline Owings Hall, JD (Stacy); grandchildren, Keeley Myers Owings, Colin Patterson Owings, Crosby Taylor Hall; and brothers, Charles David Myers, III (Cheryl), Paul Harry Myers (Elaine), Robert Thomas Myers (Suzanne). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ the King School.
The Funeral Mass followed by a reception will be Thursday, January 22, 2026, beginning at 10 o’clock at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Rd, NE, Atlanta, GA 30305. Interment at Arlington Memorial Park will follow the reception.
