
Krista Kathleen Theiler was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 8,1966, to Gary Theiler and Katharine Emerson. She passed away on May 24, 2026. She spent her childhood between Atlanta and Maryland, experiences that helped shape her perspective and character. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University in 1990 and a Master of Architecture degree from North Carolina State University in 1994.
A registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional in Georgia, she dedicated her career to the design of higher education facilities.She was deeply passionate about architecture and committed to mentoring the next generation of designers and architects. Through design reviews, workshops, and critiques, she generously shared her knowledge and experience. She was an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the Society for College and University Planning. She also devoted her time to community service and professional advocacy. She volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and supported initiatives that promoted women in leadership roles within architecture through the AIA and other professional organizations.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, she was admired for her unwavering loyalty, honesty, and practical sense of justice. She possessed a rare combination of intelligence, humor, kindness, and spirited competitiveness. Though she would jokingly admit to being a procrastinator at times, she was always focused and determined when it mattered most. Her greatest strength was her dedication to those she loved. She was always there to offer support, encouragement, and, when needed, the gentle push that helped others reach their potential. Her generosity, wisdom, and friendship touched countless lives.
Krista’s legacy lives on in the people she inspired, the communities she served, and the lasting impact of her work. She was loved and will be remembered always by her family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her; She is survived by her mother, who loved and cared for her deeply and always.
