

Margaret Ann Gillogly of Atlanta, GA passed away on October 9th, 2014 at her home after an eight-month battle with a Stage IV Glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. She was 54 years old. A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Margaret’s passion for life touched everyone she knew. Born on April 25th, 1960 in Miami, FL to James B. Cunningham and Margaret L. Cunningham, Margaret also grew up in Rye, NY, and Mission Hills, KS. She graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1978 and received a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Kansas in 1982. While working for the Hershey Candy Company, she met and married Scott D. Gillogly, M.D. in 1984 and they later moved to Atlanta, GA to raise their three children. Margaret quickly became active in the community, serving as President of the Junior League of Atlanta, volunteering for the Meals on Wheels organization, and taking leadership roles in her children’s schools. She was a longtime member of Northside United Methodist church, where she was involved in several church activities and lived a life devoted to Christ. Margaret was best known for being a loving mother, caring friend, fantastic cook, and gracious hostess. In 2006, Margaret returned to graduate school at the University of West Georgia to pursue a Masters degree in Library Science. She found great joy in her new calling as a Media Specialist for the Atlanta Public Schools, where she most recently served as Head Media Specialist at Sarah R. Smith Elementary School. She was passionate about helping students in the library and spreading her love of reading throughout her community. She is survived by her daughter, Allison Gillogly; sons, Bennett Gillogly, Trevor Gillogly; father, James B. Cunningham; brothers, James Cunningham, David Cunningham, beloved nieces and nephews; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 3 o’clock at Northside United Methodist Church with Dr. G. Gil Watson officiating.
