

Her parents were Hannah Hortense Marguerite Hartsell Barnett and Jesse Ragon Barnett. She was the youngest of six: Madeline Barnett Holloway, Samuel Clarence Barnett, Jesse Ragon Barnett, Jr., David Heartsell Barnett and John Connally Barnett.
In June 1956, she married George Benjamin “Bubba” Pennington. They were married for 57 years. “Bubba” passed away in October of 2013. She is survived by her three children, Marguerite Pennington Gould (Husband Bill- they live in DC), George Howard Pennington (Wife Cathy- they live in Atlanta) and Charles Holloway Pennington (wife Susan- they live in Connecticut). Her grandchildren are Mary Slade Pennington, Jeremy Pennington, Marguerite Pennington and Catherine Pennington. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ida Benton Pennington, and several cousins. Marge resided at Canterbury Court
After graduating from Fort Meade High School, where she was Valedictorian of her class, she started at The University of Florida where she played trumpet in the marching band. Always a “Loud and Proud Florida Gator”, Marge LOVED to watch them play football! She earned her degree in education and taught school for several years in Atlanta. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Marge maintained straight A’s in order to keep her scholarship.
Marge was a very successful realtor with Harry Normal Realtors (35 years) and Dorsey Alston (5 years). Not once, but five times she received the prestigious Million Dollar Roundtable award and was proud to display her beautiful crystal Frabel awards in her room. One of her many co-workers commented that she was always looking after the new agents and took them under her wings to show them the ropes--how to be an incredible realtor both professionally and personally. She was always sharing knowledge and selflessly helping make everybody be a better version of themselves.
She and Bubba loved to hike in the North Georgia Mountains and never missed an opportunity to go fishing. On their honeymoon in the Florida Keys, she caught an impressive Bonefish which she had mounted and proudly displayed. They lived in Garden Hills until 2014 and built a strong community of friends with whom she maintained contact.
She had 9 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews AND 12 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Marge enjoyed tennis and was a member of ALTA in the 1970’s. She always kept busy, both mentally and physically. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver for many years and loved to go for long walks. She and her family were members of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, and she kept up many relationships over the years.
