

Marie Hammond Leonard, 92, of Decatur, GA died January 1, 2016 of cancer. Mrs. Leonard was born November 15, 1923 in Cumming, Georgia. She was employed with the U.S. Army beginning in 1942 during World War II, and joined Internal Revenue Service in 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland before transferring to Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, Georgia. After holding several non-managerial positions with IRS, she became Unit Manager, then Section Chief, before becoming a Branch Chief at the Atlanta Service Center in 1975. She supervised Taxpayer Relations Branch operations from 1982 until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her husband, William Murl Leonard, Jr. and daughter, Susan L. Adams. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra M. Leonard; grandsons, James Leonard Adams, Ryan William Adams, Nathaniel Murl Norowski; three great-grandchildren, James Matthew Adams, Richard Claude Adams, Julia Ryan Adams; and sister, Carolyn H. Harris. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, MD 20814 and/or to your favorite charity. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 11 o’clock with the family receiving friends beginning at 10 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta.
