He was preceded in death by his father, Pascal Brady Burdett, his mother Marilla Collins Lacefield, and his step father Joe Lacefield.
Mitch is survived by his wife of 25 years, Fionnuala; his sons, Aidan and Brendan; his step mother Judy Burdett; his siblings Cole (Pam) Harned, Kathlene Harned, Julie (Al) McGowan, Jay Weber, Lee Burdett, his brothers and sisters-in-law, many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Mitch was born in Atlanta, GA and was raised with strong family values that shaped the man he became. He attended Mount Vernon Christian Academy for high school and later went on to attend Georgia Southern University.
Mitch spent many years working in the restaurant industry, where he built a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He had a genuine love for that world – the energy, the people, and the sense of community it created – and many of those relationships remained important to him throughout his life.
Mitch found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the golf course, where he was happiest surrounded by friends, fresh air, and a little friendly competition. He especially loved spending time in Florida, specifically Fort Pierce and Pensacola Beach, places that brought him peace and happiness.
Mitch was a devoted husband, proud father, beloved brother, uncle, and friend. Twenty-five years ago, he married the love of his life in Ireland, a place that always held a special piece of his heart. Throughout their marriage, Ireland remained his favorite place in the world—a place filled with cherished memories, laughter, and family.
More than anything, Mitch loved his family. He adored his twin sons, Aidan and Brendan, and was deeply devoted to them throughout their lives. As the father of two sons with severe autism, he spent many years as their primary caregiver, always making sure they were loved, protected, and cared for. He loved being their dad and took great pride in them. He also deeply loved his wife of 25 years, and their bond remained strong through all of life’s challenges. His family was his greatest joy and the center of his world.
Mitch will be remembered for his humor, his warmth, his loyalty, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew and loved him.
A service to celebrate Mitch’s life will be held on June 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the historic sanctuary of Roswell Presbyterian church, 755 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a GoFundMe established for Aidan and Brendan. As young adults with severe autism, they will continue to require lifelong care and support. Contributions made in Mitch’s memory will help provide for their future needs and serve as a lasting tribute to the love he had for his boys.
“May the road rise to meet you, Mitch, and may the wind be always at your back, until we meet again.”
