Nancy Mansfield Maas of Sandy Springs, Georgia passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025 at the age of 79 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Nancy was born on April 11, 1945 in Commerce, Georgia to the late Nan and Paul Mansfield.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, loving husband, Richard “Dick” Maas and her sister, Laura Kathleen “Kathy” Baker.
A proud graduate of Albany High School, Nancy went on to attend Georgia Southern College before starting her teaching career in Charlotte, North Carolina. Seeking new challenges, she moved to Atlanta and launched a successful career in sales with IBM. Always full of energy and eager to embrace new opportunities, Nancy didn’t slow down after retiring from IBM. Instead, she transitioned into a rewarding career in Residential Mortgage Banking, where she continued to thrive and make a positive impact.
Nancy truly lived life to the fullest, always lighting up any room with her radiant smile and infectious personality. She cherished time spent with family and friends, especially her lifelong friends from Albany, who held a special place in her heart. Whether it was enjoying the beach, relaxing at the lake, exploring the mountains, playing golf, or practicing pilates, Nancy loved being active and surrounded by her friends and family. Although she did not have children of her own, she was a loving aunt, great-aunt, stepmother, and step-grandmother, showering each of them with the same warmth, love, and care as if they were her own.
She is survived by her niece, Kristen Baker Weeden (Timothy Weeden); great-niece, Abigail Weeden; great-nephew, William “Baker” Weeden; stepdaughter, Phyllis Maas Sheets; stepson, Phillip Maas (Becky); and step-grandchildren, Erin and Katie Sheets, and Jordan and Nicole Maas.
We would like to thank the staff at Somerby of Sandy Springs for their many years of care and compassion and to Traditions Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 16 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in honor of Nancy Mansfield Maas.
