

Patrick Joseph McGahan passed away on Sunday, November 29 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA from complications related to cancer with his family surrounding him. Patrick was born on November 19, 1933 in Terre Haute, IN to Dorothy Scharf and Walter Joseph McGahan. He married his wife, Barbara Ave, in 1959; married over 56 years, they have four children and fourteen grandchildren. He was a loyal alumnus of The University of Notre Dame, class of 1955, holding a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and was a graduate of the Indiana University Graduate School of Business Executive Management Program. He served as a U.S. Naval Officer from 1955 to 1958, serving at Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville, FL, Olathe, KS, and San Diego, CA. He had a long and distinguished career with Cummins Inc., serving as Principal and Chairman of Cummins South, Inc. until 2005. He then became Chairman of PJM Investments, an investment and real estate company. His contributions to the community are many. He was dedicated to the mission of the Sisters of Mercy through Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Mercy Care; he was recently named an Honorary Director for The Mercy Care Foundation, having served on their Board of Directors for 25 years. He and Barbara have long supported the mission of the Society of Mary and its educational programs. He has helped enable education through a scholarship in his parents’ name at the University of Notre Dame along with membership in the Badin Guild and Sorin Society; he was also a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Clubs of Atlanta and Hilton Head. He was a founding Trustee of Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville, Georgia, now closed. For 35 years he was a member of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association Board and served on the Board of the Georgia Department of Driver Services for six years. He was a founding Board member of the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Foundation and a member and supporter of The Shamrock Society. Memberships include The Cathedral of Christ the King, Order of Malta Federal Association, The Rotary Club of Atlanta, Cherokee Town and Country Club, The Commerce Club, Sea Pines Country Club, and Harbour Town Yacht Club. Patrick Joseph McGahan is survived by his wife, Barbara Ave McGahan; children, Sheila McGahan Monardo (Paul), Dr. Thomas Patrick McGahan (Lauren), Anne McGahan Harmet (Jeff), Mark Joseph McGahan (Catherine); 14 grandchildren; sister, Beverly Shea Kesler (Bill); and members of the Shea and Krieg families. A Wake Service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 5 o’clock PM at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305, with a reception to follow in Kenny Parish Hall. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 at 10:30 o’clock AM at The Cathedral of Christ the King. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Gifts in memory of Patrick J.
