Paul Richard Teter

Paul Richard Teter died peacefully on August 30, 2026, in Atlanta GA, following his brave and determined six-month brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was born in Brooklyn on February 22, 1944, to parents George S. and Irma F. Teter.

Paul was born and raised in Brooklyn NY with his brothers George, Ed and Ken, and cousins Bill and David. He attended George Washington University in Washington DC where he earned a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1965. After graduation, Paul realized that teaching was his true calling, earned a further degree, and began his lifelong vocation as a HS math teacher where he helped Second Chance at-risk students earn a pathway to graduation. Paul was named Teacher of the Year several times.

Residing in the Atlanta area along with his brother George for four decades, he built lasting friendships and finally settled in Sandy Springs, GA, with his partner of twenty-four years, Portia Farley Coyne, enjoying a full life surrounded by grown children and grandchildren, endearing him as ‘Poppy’.

Paul loved to travel, including numerous journeys both overseas and throughout America. Paul had a passion for art and took many drawing classes and often drew portraits of his students. He loved photography, film, opera, writing poetry, and playing the piano or composing.

Beginning in the mid-1950’s, the George Teter family spent their summers at Paradise Falls Lutheran Association (PFLA) near Cresco, PA. Paul served as lifeguard at the lake, social director planning all activities and organized road rallies, thus building long-standing friendships and memories. He loved to spend summers or often visit the Paradise Falls cottage, keeping it in the family and helping to facilitate annual family reunions at PFLA that included extended family and friends from near and far. Paul as MC, and George created the most memorable game show for evening entertainment, rich with family history and laughter.

With his enthusiasm for life and distinctive personality, Paul was truly loved by many. He leaves behind countless memories of love, laughter, kindness and a gentle nature. He will not be forgotten.
