

Perry Howell McCarty, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday morning, September 21st. A native and lifelong resident of Atlanta, he was born on November 28th, 1942, to George Weyman McCarty, Jr. and Caroline Perry McCarty.
Perry graduated from the Westminster Schools (class of 1961) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (class of 1965), where he was a Morehead Scholar. He later earned his MBA from Georgia State University. He enjoyed a successful career in financial services spanning over 40 years. He and his wife Ginny were married in Atlanta in 1972 and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in August 2025.
A man of strong faith, Perry was an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for many years. His relationship with God and commitment to service shaped his life and touched those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Louise Vaden McCarty; sons, John Vaden McCarty (Alycia) of Marietta and David Howell McCarty (Jenna) of Gastonia, NC; and grandchildren, Vaden Thomas and Alexis Mae McCarty, Kendall Marie and Sloane Howell McCarty. He is also survived by his brother, J. Rucker McCarty (Frances) of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Karen Long McCarty, wife of his late brother George Weyman McCarty III of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Vaden Ashworth (Robert) of Raleigh, NC; nieces, Erin Chase McCarty Mason (Chris, Atlanta), Leigh Adair McCarty Woods (Ben, AL), and Laura Ansley McCarty Craine (Will, TX); great-nieces and nephews, Benjamin Rucker and Robert McCarty Woods, and Frances Mary and Robert Hosea Craine; and cousins, Passie Fenton McCarty Rue (Les, SC) and John Ottley McCarty Jr. (Donna, Atlanta), and their families.
A service honoring Perry’s life will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church on Thursday, October 2, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Source Ministries or Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
