

Peter Seery Caragher, 88, of Decatur, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his home. A native New Yorker, Pete was born October 24, 1927, in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York to Francis Xavier Caragher and Helen Seery Caragher. Before meeting the love of his life at a Knights of Columbus dance, he studied to be a Jesuit priest, served in the US Marines, and worked for Radio Free Europe. In 1956, he married Joan Teresa Rogers of the Bronx, and the rest is history. Together, they moved away and settled in Atlanta to raise four children in a house filled with love and laughter. Pete coached little league, taught CCD, and was spotted occasionally at the local bakery. He will be remembered for his good nature and sense of humor. Pete spent the majority of his career in sales at ITW covering the Southeast and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents; and his brother Frank X. Caragher, Jr. and his sister Kathleen Caragher Terwilliger, both of Long Island, NY. He is survived by his daughter Ann Caragher Plunkett (Mike) of San Diego, CA; and three sons, Daniel Peter Caragher of Canton, Christopher James Caragher (Mitzi) of Decatur, and David Vincent Caragher (Christi) of Suwanee; and five grandsons, Tim Plunkett, Matt Plunkett, Chris Plunkett, Michael Caragher and Nicholas Caragher. A Funeral Mass will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Dr., Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the church.
