I never met Qasim in person, we both worked remotely at AT&T as software developers. We became good friends often chatting outside work. Honestly one of the nicest guys I've ever met. 

We had last talked about his trip to China, so insightful for a young guy.  He was one of the best developers I've met as well.

I'm positive he comes from a terrific family, my heart goes out. He will be missed

Qasim, the ultimate gentleman! We met back in 2014 through our mutual friend Edwin in Atlanta.  Although our encounters were often brief,  you made a lasting impression - always calm and positive with a ready smile. I was inspired by your love for travel...you let nothing hold you back. I last saw you on 2017 when you came to London, I never imagined that would be the last time. In February you said you were planning another trip to Europe and the plan was to go back to the Lebanese restaurant I took you to. I was really shocked to hear the news - such a good person. Rest easy Qasim. Remembering you, your family and loved ones in my prayers.

Qasim came to our lakefront home on Lake Arrowhead with my son Rusty Speidel and his family.  He also came to the eclipse in Tennessee where our family was gathered. He and Rusty were very good friends.  On at least one long summer afternoon on the dock, Qasim and I had lots of time to get to know each other.  On one occasion, I was teasing him about not being married, and then we would get into a friendly philosophical discussion on familys and what's really important in life.  I was always positively impressed with him.  It's hard to believe I won't be seeing him on the dock this summer.  What a great guy!  And I've heard he was engaged to be married.  That put's tears in my eyes.  
His family has every right to be very proud of him.  I am.
According to my faith, we will meet again, and I look forward to it.

I am so grateful  to have had a chance to meet you. You always had a kind spirit. You brought so much joy and laughter into my friend Holly's life.  You meant alot to her. I know that you will be looking down on her as her guardian angel!

Qasim saved me from a stingray once, and I will never forget that. Just like i will never forget how much he made me laugh, especially when he was with his family and Loren. I so much appreciate the people who can bring that type of joy and lightheartedness into this world. Qasim's spirit definitely lives on in my thoughts and memories. I know he will be so greatly missed, but I also know he will continue to surround his family with love, now and always.

You have positively impacted and inspired many lives in life and now In rest. People that know you are well aware of how you were the epitome of a man that lived their life to the fullest. You were so much for so many people and the hole in our hearts you’re leaving behind can never be repaired. One of the things i admired about you most was how deeply you loved your family and friends and genuinely felt it your duty to be loyal and someone they could call on when in need and you never complained about it.  My deepest sympathy to family and friends heartbroken by the loss of our gentle giant.

I miss you now and for always but i will especially miss your unique, beautiful, smooth, therapeutic voice that had the uncanny ability to calm every storm I THOUGHT I couldn’t overcome.    I met Qasim through a mutual friend named  Perrin about 8-9 years ago on the beach.  We hung out several times on the beach and just kicked it, laughed a lot and spoke about traveling. I can honestly say Qasim was just great to hangout with and be around with.    He would laugh a lot and just live life. I appreciated that about him. He was such a positive person.  Qasim always had a positive outlook on life.  He was a great person as well as a great friend. I will miss him dearly. Thank you for being you Qasim. 🙏🏽

I will always cherish our conversations in passing at the gym. Last we spoke, you encouraged me to see the world. You were a kind soul, witty in the ways that sparked intellectual conversations, and always imparted words of wisdom that needed to be heard. The beautiful thing is... you received the flowers while you were here on earth. I truly believe you can feel the energy and outpouring of love. This summer, I will travel to the unknown and explore uncharted territories in your honor - and definitely in your cool style.

We will miss Qasim a lot. Hafeeza and Qasim became some of my favorite people to get to know and spend good times with talking and laughing A LOT at UA(Roll Tide.) I remember taking about 5 hours trying to twist that huge (and surprisingly uncurly) afro of his at Rose Towers, being so excited to see him and Ali at their probate show, and some  really good conversations after graduation. Trying to keep in touch for a few years, giving encouragement and advice about the next steps on our lives journeys.  He really made a great and exciting life and impressed me a lot. I didn't realize how much I missed that deep voice with the  unquestionable Southern drawl over these past few years, until now. Qasim lived life to the fullest and it was a true blessing to be his friend.  Shahid family I always admired your closeness and strength.  Lifting er'body up in genuine prayer.


Qasim thank you for living your life the way you did. Exploring and being free. You LIVED and because of that I will be braver.

I will always remember the first day we met at INPO. You were sitting at your desk with the brand new iPhone,  the first iPhone.  We had lunch a few times and we ended up being neighbors in the same apartment complex. You took me to my first Alabama tailgate party. You showed me that anything is possible in life. I was in the gym with you trying to bulk up. It didn’t work but I’m sure I’m healthier for it.   I remember never wanting to go to Miami until you and Perrin made it look like so much fun. We call you the gentle giant. I thought I saw you today in the gym parking lot. Sadly it wasn’t. Guess the angels needed a new trainer. They now have one of the best.

I'm beyond shocked by this news, however, he lived a million lives in his one life. His smile could light up the universe. Qasim made life look easy.  Nothing seemed to get him down.  His personality was one that many aspire to have.  He never met a stranger.  You could always be yourself around him.  He lived the life he wrote for himself.   I will always remember his smile.  Never seen him frown.  I admired his tireless energy- nothing seemed to get in the way of his happiness. 

It's hard to meet people like Qasim.  His compassion for others, wit, and ambition brought joy to others.  I will never forget his many social media postings of his trips and time he spent with his family.  He truly lived without regret.

I am friends with Qasim’s sister Zarinah and I am truly heartbroken to hear of his passing. He was such and extraordinary and genuine guy. He made you instantly feel like a close friend. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions but really got to know him during the sugar bowl 2018. The thing that stood out the most was how he treated his father and sister with such care and attention...not only his family but they were truly his friends. I met Qasim when he was a customer of mine in the Perrin Mobley Wedding Party. Standup guy he made a great impact upon me and reminded me that family is important let them know often how much you love them and. travel and see the world and experience and appreciate other people and their culture. He is the benchmark that I gauge my life against many times, and I find myself quite often pondering what he would do or think given a situation. His positive energy touched many people's lives and we are all better for this. Even though we no longer have his physical presence in this world, we carry a little piece of him inside of us, and we are truly blessed to have had him in our lives.
