Ralph Edward Gentry was born on March 31, 1941, in Pontotoc, Mississippi. He died on December 25, 2022, after losing a courageous battle with ALS. He attended Mississippi State University where he received both a bachelor's and master's degree in microbiology and biochemistry. He worked for 34 years in the Environmental Protection Agency's Regional Office in Athens, GA. After retirement in the year 2000, Ralph and Sandra moved to Marietta, GA to live near their daughter, Traci, and her family.
Over the years, Ralph enjoyed spending lots of quality time together with his wife and daughter. He also loved
spending time with his grandchildren attending all of their school programs and athletic events. He had many hobbies and interests including reading, woodworking, camping, travel and spending time with his pets. He was known for his kindness, wisdom and dry sense of humor. People loved being around him because he kept them entertained with humorous stories.
He was an absolute joy to be around.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sandra Gigoux Gentry, and cherished daughter Traci Gentry Simmons (Brian); grandson Connor Gentry Simmons and granddaughter Reilly Michelle Simmons of Marietta, GA; brother Dwight Gentry (Joyce) of Sulligent, AL; brother Barry Gentry of Pontotoc, MS; nephews Jacob Gentry (Amanda) of Pontotoc, MS: Ben Gentry of Pontotoc, MS and Tyler Stout (Kari) of Jackson, MS; nieces Pam Lemons (Graham) of Pontotoc, MS; Beth Sullivan (Jason) of Pontotoc, MS: Shani Cincotti (Matt) of Boston, MA.; sister-in-law Judi Gentry of Pontotoc, MS; brother-in-law Rex Cochran of Baton Rouge, LA and many cousins, great nieces, great nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding Ralph in death were his parents Branty and Faye (Baldwin) Gentry; beloved daughter Lori Michelle Gentry; brothers Lyle Bradley Gentry, and Michael Wayne Gentry; brother-in-law Michael Stout; sisters-in-law Karen Cochran and Patricia Gentry and niece Laurel New Story.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on January 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at H.M. Patterson & Son- Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd. NE, Sandy Springs, GA.
