Rayene is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Roland; daughter Melanie Stallings (Eric); daughter Monica Garrett (Charles); daughter Mindi Ashburn; and grandchildren Olivia, Caleb, Dillon, Elsa, Megan, and Micah. She is also survived by a close-knit extended family including sisters-in-law, Norma Ashburn and Janet MacWhirter (Roger), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rayene and Roland met at Melvin’s Drive-In in Greensboro, North Carolina and were married on July 21, 1962. Throughout their life together, they lived in Newport News, Virginia; Raleigh, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina; and Burlington, North Carolina before moving to Norcross, Georgia in 1976.
In Raleigh, Rayene worked for an insurance company while Roland attended North Carolina State University. Following his graduation, Rayene joyfully dedicated herself to being a wonderful wife and mother. After staying at home to raise their daughters, Rayene went to work at Georgia Periodontics for almost 20 years, where she created lifelong friendships.
Rayene was a loyal friend. She also never met a stranger. She had the gift of generosity and service – always cooking, always giving, always cleaning, always helping others.
Rayene always sought to be proper, neat, and organized. She had absolutely perfect handwriting and her words per minute on a typewriter were a sight to behold. She was a grand master at garage sales. She would rearrange the toppings on a prepared sandwich to turn it into her own masterpiece every single time.
We will miss Rayene so very much but we are so grateful that we know that she is now in the presence of her Savior.
