December 8, 1932 – July 14, 2020
Reina Calderon Marcucci was born in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. She became a teacher by the time she was 16 and a nurse by the time she was in her early twenties. She met and married the love of her life, Miguel Angel, while she was working at the hospital and he was in medical school. They were adventurous risk takers and with two babies they moved to the US. They soon welcomed another daughter. While Atlanta was always home, Reina loved Panama City Beach, Florida where she was a successful real estate investor and spent the happiest days of her life!
Reina had many amazing accomplishments in her life, but what she was most proud of were her children and her beautiful granddaughters. She welcomed all her kids’ friends into her home and was a second mom to many. Everyone called her “Mama” or “Mama Reina”. She was larger than life, always happy and smiling. She brought sparkle, fun and joy to every occasion and to everyone she met. She loved Christmas and started decorating in September. She thought December was the best month of the year and threw an awesome party every Christmas Eve. She was predeceased by her husband, Miguel Angel, and son, Mike. She is survived by two daughters Trish (Tom Sheeran) and Jackie (David Price); daughter in law, Fannyna, and four granddaughters Natalia, Isabella, Angelina and Sophie; niece, Melin Waldrop (Bill); grandnephew, Donnie Britt (Carrie); grandniece, Vickie Blackburn (Merik); four great grandnephews, David, Michael, William and Beau, and many other relatives. She will be missed by many but her spirit lives on. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mike’s Angels, Inc. (www.mikesangels.org).

I had the gift of meeting you only a few times. My memory of you is one of warmth, grace and a great love for your children. You blessed each of them with warm caring hearts. Prayers for all of you.... She will always be a part of your life.

36 years ago I was allowed into this family. Mrs. Marcucci claimed me as a son and put up with me as only a mother, whether surrogate or blood, would. If it wasn't for Mrs. Marcucci and her family I would have not had many birthdays, Christmases, Thanksgivings, etc. I have always admired this little lady. She was very unassuming and almost always in good spirits despite many serious hardships in her life. When it was required of her she stepped up and became a powerful force despite that not being who she was taught to be by cultural standards. She was a mother figure to many and was a consistently positive force in so many people's lives. I love her as another mother and I feel privileged to have been a part of her life and her family. The world is a less of a good place without her. I'm still pinching myself trying to convince myself that this is all real. While I know we will all preserver and go on with life, Mrs. Marcucci leaves behind a void that no one can fill. Rest in peace Mrs. Marcucci and know that you had a great effect on many, we all love you and you are so missed by all who knew you!

Mama Reina -
We hit the jackpot when we moved to the the house across the street from yours. We gained a second mom. You always made us feel so welcome - just like a part of your family. You cooked amazing food we loved to eat - especially the frijoles sandwich. Your spread at your Christmas party was a crowd favorite - from delicious ham to the tamales. The gift exchange had us laughing every year.
We loved seeing (and then eating) the beautiful cakes you baked.
We loved going to the lake and spending hours learning to ski with you, Dr. Marcucci, Mike, Trish and Jackie. Remember when Fiona saw the “buried treasure” floating in the water? What about those wonderful trips to Panama City?
I will always remember how your eyes would light up when you welcomed us across your front doorstep. You shared that same sparkle and loving spirit with whoever was lucky enough to cross your path.
Thank you for being the wonderful, joyful and fun-loving you.
May you Rest In Peace. Say hello to Dr. M and Mike for us. We miss you all, but will remember you always.
