

Richard was born on December 17, 1946, to Clayton Burge and Lucy Burge (Glass) in Hopewell, Virginia. After Richard graduated from Hopewell High School in 1965, he entered the Air Force and served as a data processing machine operator until his discharge as a sergeant in June 1971.
He held many jobs and worked in many fields especially as a plasterer, construction worker, truck driver, Legal Shield agent, and, finally, as a home remodeler / handy man. He even spent time working on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
Richard was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church since 1992. He founded the Single Horizon Sunday school class, was a member for 20+ years, and served terms as President and Treasurer of the class. Later, he was a member of the Anchor Sunday school class. He was a member of multiple Bible studies. From 2013, Richard was a Stephen Minister and served in a leadership role in the program for several years. He first attended Georgia Presbyterian Cursillo in the Spring of 2008. The experience had a significant impact on Richard, and he attended many pilgrimages for Cursillo after that.
Richard was predeceased by his father Clayton Burge, mother Lucy Glass (Bonomo), stepmother Dorothy Gayle Slade, stepfather Harvey Glass, and stepbrother Ronnie Broughton. He is survived by his uncle and aunt Robert and Violet Burge; sisters Mary Ann Miller (David) and Linda Thompson (Mike); stepbrothers Donnie Broughton (Kathy), Jerry Broughton (Marsha Lowe), and Anthony Broughton
(Tracy); cousin Vincent Robert LoBianco (Olga); nieces and nephews Kathy Mullins (Joe), Becky Bishop (Andy), Jamie Thompson (Jennie), and Roy Thompson; and great nephew and niece Drew Bishop and Mallory Bishop.
Visitation will be at 9:00 am, with a service following at 10:00 am, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road NW, Atlanta, Georgia. A burial will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery,1080 Scott Hudgens Dr , Canton, Georgia, at 2:00 pm on May 20, 2025.
