Richard was born on September 2, 1931 in New York, NY to Therma Allen Hynson and George Gilbert Hynson, Jr. He was a life-long resident of Rye, graduating from Rye High School in the class of 1949. Dick then attended St. Lawrence University, class of 1954, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After college, Richard had a successful career on Wall Street, specializing in Wealth Management.
Dick spent many happy years as a member of the Manursing Island Club, which led to many lifelong friendships. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, where his passion for genealogy began. Throughout his retirement, Dick traced his family roots back to the 1500’s.
Dick loved to travel and was an avid sports enthusiast. Skiing, playing tennis, paddle tennis, golf and most of all, hockey, were among his favorites. He played, coached and never missed a chance to cheer on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. He was a loyal fan of the New York Giants and New York Rangers. Dick enjoyed listening to music, especially Jazz and Neil Diamond, as loudly as his family would permit.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sharon and his children: a daughter from a previous marriage, Linda (Ray Jones) Hynson, Colin, Susan (Hugh) Tamoney and Carey (Dan) Campbell, as well as his daughter-in-law Susan Hynson. He was the proud grandfather of eleven: Tyler Jones, Nick Jones, Emily (Andrew Wear) Jones, Cal Hynson, Will Hynson, Harry (Bailey) Tamoney, Maggie (Alex) Desmarais, Katie Tamoney, Matthew Tamoney, Wyatt Campbell and Beckett Campbell.
Dick lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and respect. His family and friends will miss Dick’s warm personality, friendship and generosity. He will be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit.
