He was born in Atlanta on January 26th, 1947 to Minnette and John Pugmire. He attended Peachtree Presbyterian Church from an early age where he taught Sunday School as an adult. He graduated from The Westminster Schools in 1965 and later from The University of Georgia in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He served six years in the Marine Corps Reserves, during which time he married his junior high sweetheart of many years, Marilyn (Lynn) Bradley, in 1971.
Richard began his career in his family’s car business in 1970, where he worked for more than 40 years. Under his guidance, Pugmire Lincoln-Mercury won many national and regional awards and was recognized as one of Lincoln’s top dealers. Richard served 30 years as a dedicated board member of the Salvation Army (Atlanta region), for which his grandparents dedicated their lives and held the highest office in the 1940’s. He was an incredible husband, father, son, grandfather, businessman, Marine, Dawg fan and sportsman. He especially loved hunting deer, turkey, and birds with his family and friends.
Mr. Pugmire is survived by his wife, Lynn Pugmire, and his daughter-in-law and son, Allison and Austin Pugmire of Madison, GA, his daughter, Helen Pugmire Skipper of Marietta, GA, and his son, Peyton Pugmire of Marblehead, MA, and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Minnette and John Pugmire.
Funeral visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 9, at 2:00pm at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, located at 201 Mt Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
