

He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and grew up in Wilmington, Columbia, and Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and received a Bachelor of History from the University of Richmond. He worked for the former Union Camp Corporation for 36 years. He retired back to Richmond and later Beaufort, South Carolina before returning to Atlanta, Georgia to be close to family.
He was an artist, sailor and lover of music. He always met you with a smile and a handshake. He was both a gentleman and a gentle man, kind to all fortunate enough to know him. He was an adoring husband of his wife of 67 years and loving father to his children and grandfather to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Judith Harnsberger, his daughter Hollis Smith and her husband Grant Smith, their daughters Caroline Wasserman (husband Jared Wasserman), and Sarah Holder (husband Jack Holder), and his son Jon Harnsberger, all of Atlanta.
A celebration of his life will be attended by close friends and family.
