Robert Levitt Turner, 93, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, died peacefully on June 21, 2026. Born on January 31, 1933 in Highland Park, Michigan, Robert was known by most as Bob and by those closest to him as “Bobby.” He was a beloved husband, father, “Papa,” and friend. He lived a long and blessed life defined by his generosity and devotion to his family.
Bob attended North Fulton High School, where he was an accomplished athlete in basketball and football. It was at N.F.H.S. where he met many life-long friends with whom he annually celebrated as a member of the “Buckhead Boys.” He also met the love of his life, Joyce Turner, at N.F.H.S., whom he married in 1954. Together they moved to Germany, where Bob served in the U.S. Army for two years. Upon returning, they made their home in Sandy Springs, where they raised their three children. During these years, Bob enjoyed a successful career as president of S.O.S. Printing Company, which subsequently became Turner/Millner Printing Company.
Bob, who loved his family and enjoyed life, planned many memorable getaways. These included yearly vacations to his favorite Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island. Nothing made him happier than making sure everyone was having fun. This meant plenty of bike rides, golf games, ocean swims, and visits to The Salty Dog. Another cherished destination was “The Farm” in McDonough, where his children and grandchildren couldn’t get enough of the golf cart rides, fishing, swimming, and homemade ice cream.
Bob was committed to service throughout his community. For many years, he was active at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and a board member. He was a member of The Men’s Bible Class and was class president in 1975-76. He was also on the Board of Trustees at the United Methodist Children’s Home in Decatur from 1990 to 1998.
Additionally, Bob was actively involved with the Northside YMCA, serving as chairman of its Board of Management for two years. He sat on the Advisory Board of Metro YMCA and was a member of the Stem-Y-nders Club for nine years, supporting the organization’s growth. Bob was also a leader in the Optimist Club of Peachtree Atlanta. He was president in 1964-65 and later became lieutenant governor of Optimist Clubs of Georgia. He received the New Club Building Award for sponsoring and chartering a new local chapter serving youth in the growing Atlanta suburbs.
Bob was passionate about the game of golf. Having memberships at Druid Hills Golf Club and Ansley Golf Club at Settindown Creek, he enjoyed countless rounds with his dear friends and golf buddies. He played many courses over the years, with a highlight being his time at St. Andrews in Scotland.
The family wishes to thank Bob’s loving caregivers, Paris King along with her sons, Isaiah and Parrish, and other children: Phil, Kamar, Jadah, and Ayden. Their kindness and outstanding care will long be remembered.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Estie LeRoy Turner and Inez Prior Turner, and his wife, Joyce Cobb Turner. He is survived by his children: Susan Turner, Rob Turner (Rossie), and Mary Anne Browne (Bill), five grandchildren: Laurie Spivey (Josh), David Turner, Tracy Turner (Brad Griffeth), Kelly Anne O’Neill (Matt), Sarah Brown (Grier), and six great-grandchildren: Addison and Hudson O’Neill, Mallie, Tate, and Bridger Brown, and Josephine Turner.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 1 pm at Arlington Memorial Park. A celebration of life reception will follow at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd. NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army, Metro Atlanta Area Command, Attn: Development Department, 1000 Center Place, Norcross, GA 30093.
