Roberta Joan Lewis Foreman, 78, of Dunwoody, GA, died December 26, 2017. Mrs. Foreman was born in North Tonawanda, NY on April 17, 1939, and was the only child of the late George and Edith Starling Lewis. The family moved to Lewiston, NY, where Roberta graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School. She attended Univ. of Arizona and Univ. of Buffalo, where she met her husband Phil.
Phil and Roberta eventually moved to Atlanta, GA, raising their four children while owning and operating the Ansley Mall Bookstore, a favorite of many avid readers. After retiring from business in 1992, Roberta became involved in several community and charitable organizations. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1961, holding every office in her chapter and serving on the board of the city council. Roberta was also an active volunteer with the Dunwoody Library, particularly helping with their semiannual book sales. Perhaps her most time-intensive work was with the annual Festival of Trees, which she helped coordinate for several years, raising money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Roberta loved books, especially a good mystery. She was fond of good food, white wine, theater and concerts, animals (esp. dogs and cats), crossword puzzles, and Perry Mason re-runs. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, going all over the world with family and friends. Her favorite and most frequent travelling companion was Phil, and they shared many amazing experiences, like whale-watching in Maui, walking among the clay warriors in Xian, visiting a fishing captain friend in St. Croix, and spending a week in a Tuscan villa. She had a special love of Arizona, where she and Phil had a second home. Roberta will be remembered for her love of a funny story, constant upbeat spirit, sharp mind, dogged determination, willingness to forgive and forget, and loyalty to those she loved. She leaves behind a family that will miss her affection for and devotion to her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. We rest in the assurance that her pain is over and that she is at peace, secure in the presence of the Lord. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Phillip Foreman of Kenmore, NY; sons Peter (Sue), Richard (Christy), and Christopher (Traci) Foreman; daughter Katherine (Tim Brown) Foreman; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
