Don is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dr. Mary Louise Price Wilson, a daughter Carisa Wilson Diaz (Manny), 4 grandchildren Calvin, Brandon, Alyssa, and Alexa, all of Miami, FL, and a son Allen Donald Wilson (Gail) and granddaughter Charlotte Anne, of Alpharetta, GA.
Preceding him in death were his parents Rev. Roy V. Wilson and Leila Wilson Carney, and a brother Allen Lee Wilson.
Don graduated from Florida State University with the Bachelors and Masters degrees in music composition, was a professor of instrumental music and theory at Brewton Parker College for 4 years, and served as a part-time Minister of Music in several churches during this period of his life. While at FSU he was a radio announcer for the university radio station; studied with John Boda, Roy Johnson, Harold Schulman, Carlisle Floyd, and Thomas Wright; and in 1967, won the 4th annual Collegians Composition award.
He moved to Denton, TX, in 1970 to pursue a doctorate in music, taught music theory as a graduate teaching assistant in the School of Music at the University of North Texas, and received the DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree in composition. Don and Mary Louise married on Christmas Eve, 1972, and later moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where Don was on the music faculty at Louisiana State University from 1976-1981. While at LSU he was president of the Baton Rouge Runners Club and ran in several marathons and numerous races.
In 1981 he accepted a teaching position at the University of Miami (FL) where he taught composition and theory and was director of the Electronic and Computer Music studio. After retirement Don and Mary Louise moved to Roswell, GA, to be closer to their parents.
A private family graveside service was held on June 23, 2022 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
