Ruby O’Shields Burnett, 87, of Norcross died peacefully on Saturday, the 14th of May 2016. A True Southern Lady, she was referred to as “The Steel Magnolia” by those she touched. She was a great cook specializing in banana bread. As a loving grandmother she hosted many teddy bear tea parties and jack-o-lantern carvings. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, Robert A. Burnett, Sr. Surviving are her daughter, Melanie Burnett Thaxton; sons and daughter-in-law, Robby Burnett, Jr., James Troy Burnett and Penny Pressnall Burnett; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild. Memorial services celebrating Ruby’s life will be conducted on Tuesday the 17th of May at twelve o’clock, noon at Arlington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that a contribution be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Tuesday from eleven o’clock in the morning until the hour of service at H. M.
