

Ruth Reynolds Greene died age ninety-three surrounded by her family this past Saturday, January 14, 2017. Ruth was born in October 1923 in Perkins, Georgia where both mother and father's families had resided for several generations. She was the youngest of Henry Clay Reynolds and Gussie Joyner Reynolds four children. When Ruth was 2 years old the family moved to Waynesboro, Georgia. After she graduated from high school she joined several of her friends to attend Toccoa Falls Institute, where she met her future husband Lawrence Greene. After she graduated, she moved to Atlanta where she worked for American Monorail and attended what is now Georgia State University. She married Atlanta native Lawrence Greene in 1948, who after serving in the Navy in World War II graduated from Georgia Tech and went on to have a successful career in as an economic consultant and was instrumental in the development of Kiawah Island, SC. They wed at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church where Ruth joined while in her teens. She remained a faithful member throughout her life. For many years she greeted members and visitors at The Family Life Center where she was recognized as Volunteer of the Year. For over seventy years she lived in Buckhead where she raised her five children and became the matriarch of an extended family. Everyone loved Ruth Greene. She was a gentle and loving soul and giver. Her children, grandchildren and her husband were all to her. She was a joyful and fun person with a keen sense of humor. She loved being wherever people were gathered and was happiest surrounded by her family
She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence (1991) and her sisters, Alma (John) Parker and Doris (John) O’Connor and her brother Curtis (Agnes) Reynolds. She is survived by her son Larry Greene (Dr. Helena Zabina) of Atlanta, and her four daughters Cathy (Bob) Boston, Beth Greene, and Ginny (Mike) Dolan, all of Atlanta, and Carol Capps who lives in Berryville, VA. Mrs. Greene is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Sander and her daughter Tessa of Atlanta, Cliff Ramsdell of Carlsbad CA and his son Zachary Dennis, Ben (Jennifer) Boston and their three children of Dallas TX, Emory Capps of Denver CO, Michael Capps currently working in Glassboro NJ, Laura Capps of Atlanta, Matthew McCloskey of Atlanta, Emily McCloskey currently a student in Florida, Clint Dolan currently in the Navy in Pensacola FL, and Connor Dolan a student in Athens, GA. Each of us, as well as other family members, friends and her wonderful caregivers will all truly miss her.
The family will welcome visitors Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at H M Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, at 173 Allen Rd, Sandy Springs. The funeral will be held Friday at 2:00 at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Rd, in the sanctuary and her family will be on hand to greet visitors in the parlor prior to the service. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or the Shepherd Center Multiple Sclerosis Center.
