

Sara Eugenia Sanford “Jean” Jones died unexpectedly March 5, 2016, at her home in Sandy Springs. Mrs. Jones was born May 11, 1934, in Atlanta. She was the older of two children. Mrs. Jones graduated from Southwest High School and was a first honor graduate of Georgia State College in 1956. She was awarded an MBA from New York University and was honored as the highest scoring woman in her class. She worked at Rich’s Department Store in downtown Atlanta as a buyer for several departments. She volunteered as the art mother at her daughter’s elementary school, and was a member of long standing of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother. There was a succession of five beloved little dogs throughout her married life, who she regarded as members of the family. Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Ronald, and her daughter, Laurilyn, residing in New York City. Ronald and Jean were married on July 6, 1957. She is further survived by many cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Sara and Harold Sanford, she was preceded in death by her younger sister Ann. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 5 to 8 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 11 o’clock at the chapel of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, to be followed by interment at Arlington Memorial Park.
