Sara Arp Medlin

November 3, 1931 – January 28, 2026
Obituary of Sara Arp Medlin
IN THE CARE OF

H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel

Elegance and beauty flowed effortlessly for Sara Arp Medlin, whose classic decorating taste and intuitive fashion sense punctuated her daily life. On January 28, 2026, at age 94, Sara passed on peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family.

The daughter of Benjamin Franklin Arp and Cora Ethyl Patterson Arp, Sara was born in Lott, Texas, and was the youngest of five siblings, Lorraine Arp Hinch, Billie Arp Ferrell, Dorothy Arp White, and Benjamin Franklin Arp, Jr.

After graduating from Belton High School, Sara met the love of her life, Elmer Wolfe Medlin while he was stationed at Fort Hood, to whom she was joyously married for 53 years. From Texas, the new couple moved to South Carolina, where they had three children, Daniel Wolfe, Sarah Elizabeth, and Charles McCall. In 1960, the family of five moved to Atlanta, where they remained.

Sara and Elmer shared an equal passion and priority to raise their children in a happy, loving home with positive, nurturing Christian values.

Sara was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a long-time competitor, Master, teacher, and director in the American Contract Bridge League, Sara’s keen memory shone naturally. Her clever quips and intense love and memory of classic poetry and literature further showed her sharp intellect and sensitivity.

Sara, or “Nana” as called by her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, is survived by her three children, and their spouses, Dan and Helen Medlin, Joe and Beth Gibson, and Charles and Weiping Medlin. Her grandchildren’s families include James and Katie Gibson and their sons, Andrew and Thomas; Aaron Fullerton and the late Sarah Gibson and their son, Benjamin; Chase and Pamela Medlin and their daughter Bethany Dooley; Lauren and Trey Anner and their sons, Jax, Harrison, Samuel and Miller; and Chase and Erica Womack, and their children, Chloe, Eva, Emma, and Charlie.

A private service will be held at Arlington Cemetery in celebration of a rich life, well lived and guided by hope and wisdom.
