

Steven Curtis Fowler was born August 19, 1958 in Columbus, Ohio. His parents, Jerry and Joan Fowler, and sisters Susan and Jeanne lived in Ohio, Virginia, Michigan until they moved to Florida in 1972 where he resided until adulthood.
Steven graduated from Lake Brantley High School in 1976 where he played Varsity Basketball. After high school he worked for United Telephone as a cable splicer until he enrolled at Seminole Community College. After graduating from Seminole Community College, he went to University of Florida and graduated with a B.S. in Microbiology/ Cell Biology, in 1990. After graduation he worked for the Audubon Society in Key Largo, Florida and took classes in preparation for taking the MCAT’s to go to graduate school. He graduated from University of Georgia with a Masters degree in Medical Microbiology/Immunology in 1994. During his academic career he had numerous recognitions including the Howard Hughes Fellowship for Georgia Institute of Technology (1997), Graduate Research Assistantship, University of Georgia (1991-1993) and the Dr. Henry Parlett Award (Outstanding Chemistry Student), Seminole Community College (1987). Steven was also published in the Journal of Comp. Development Immunology (1994). He also created an abstract and poster for the American Association of Immunology Meetings (1993).
Steven began his teaching career at Banneker High School in College Park, Georgia in 1995. He then transferred to Southwest Dekalb High School in Decatur, Georgia.
He has been teaching at North Springs High School since 1998 where he continued his passion for educating the wonderful students that he so loved.
Steven married Solimar Lira in September of 2001, and has three wonderful stepchildren, Alyne Icassatti, Ailany Icassatti, and Jõao Paulo Jacinto. Solimar and her family are from Brazil. Steven loved his family and thought of their children as his own. Steven was instrumental in their introduction into this country, helped them overcome their language barrier as well as guided them in their education.
Steven was a brilliant, loving and devoted person. His passion was his profession and loved his field of study. He was also an avid reader and couldn’t stop learning himself. He will be sorely missed for many reasons by all who knew him. Steven’s family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity in the midst of his passing.
