Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Susan graduated from St. John Vianney Elementary School and Holy Rosary Academy in South Louisville. She shared nearly 55 years of marriage with her husband, Mark Williams. As the wife of a career Army officer, she lived throughout the United States, creating homes and raising their three children through the many moves of military life.
A registered nurse, Susan worked in hospitals before and during the early years of her marriage. She later devoted herself to raising her family and was actively involved in her children’s schools and activities. A lifelong Catholic, she remained connected to her faith wherever life took her.
Susan enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crafting, and gardening. She had a talent for making holidays and special occasions memorable, and her homemade dinner rolls, banana bread, and holiday treats became family favorites. She loved flowers, shopping, reading romance novels, and spending quiet evenings at home with Mark. She also maintained especially close relationships with her four sisters.
Susan treasured her role as Nana to seven grandchildren and enjoyed being part of their lives, celebrating their milestones, and sharing family traditions.
Susan is survived by her husband, Mark Williams; her three children, Andrea, Brian (Alison), and Kristin (Derek); her seven grandchildren, Avery, Ella, Wren, Sagan, Brennan, William, and Brooks; and her three sisters, Cindy, Alice, and Phyllis.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marsha, and her beloved dog, Chloe.
Susan will be remembered for her devotion to family, her creativity, and the traditions she established over the years. Her memory will live on through the family she loved and the generations who will carry those traditions forward.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son–Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
