

Mrs. Sylvia Mae Bailey Worthington, 88, died peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Affectionately called Mi Mi, she was surrounded by her dear friends and family in days preceding her death. Sylvia was born in Kershaw, SC on February 29, 1924. Because of her birthdate, she loved claiming she was only 22. Sylvia was the daughter of Bessie Floyd and Ernest Jackson Bailey. She graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College where she was “Miss War Bond”. After working for the Commercial Bank of Camden, she moved to Atlanta with the Veteran’s Administration. Sylvia was a member of the Glenridge Garden Club, Fine Arts Study Club, and was Past President of the Women’s Dental Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dillard Wortington, D.D.S. She and Dillard were married at the Cannon Chapel at Emory University. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Benjie Mason of Augusta, Rebecca Dorsett of Marietta; son, Thomas Dillard Worthington, Jr. (Teri); grandchildren, Rebecca Upton (Herb) of Cartersville, David Dorsett (Lauren), Darcy Mason of Charleston, SC, Samuel Dorsett (Maggie) of Macon; great-grandchildren, Tripp, Benjamin, and Wright all of Cartersville; sister, Ernestine Gold of Rutherfordton, NC; brother, Billy Dan Bailey (Martha) of Charlotte, NC; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14th at two o’clock at the Wilson Chapel at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private. Friends are invited to visit with the family following the services at the church. The family wishes to express gratitude to Cathy, Charlie, Ellen, Marina, and Ovida.
