Thomas Russell Roddy

Thomas Russell Roddy of Atlanta, died May 5, 2017. Having fought the good fight, and finished the race through faith, wandered home to his Heavenly Father on May 5, 2017. Tom was a devoted servant leader who loved God, and his family. Ever aware of the least of these among him, Tom was a generous giver of his time, talents, and gifts. Tom took the time to listen, and had a dry sense of humor delivered with impeccable timing. He will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, and service to others. Tom was born July 17, 1936 in Knoxville, TN. He attended Baylor School in Chattanooga, going on to the University of Tennessee. Tom followed his call to ministry earning his doctorate from Columbia Theological Seminary. He was ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA, served as a missionary in Brazil from 1966-1969, and was an associate pastor at North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Over 30 years ago Tom founded The Atlanta Resource Foundation, which fulfilled his vision for people of lesser and greater means to work and grow together and it continues bear fruit today. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Patrick Roddy Jr. and brother Patrick Roddy III, of Knoxville, TN. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Alexandra; children, Leigh Eigel and husband Keith, Ann Roddy and wife Jill Johnson, and Julie Roddy; and grandchildren, Alex, Pete, J.T., Ansley, Emmett, Reed and Thomas. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Mitchell; sister-in-law, Dorothy Roddy of Knoxville, TN; and nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration followed by luncheon will begin on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. The family will also receive friends Thursday evening, May 11, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at H. M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
