William William Edward "Bill" Robinson William Edward "Bill" Robinson, 77, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away on August 10, 2012. He was born in Rochester, New York, where his father was a Rockefeller Fellow in Dentistry at the university. After moves to St. Louis, Missouri with his family, Bill attended Medary School, North High School and Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, Bill reveled in exploring Glen Echo Ravine next to his childhood home and was active in the Boy Scouts, attending summer camps and the first jamboree held after World War II, and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Bill served in the U.S. Navy between 1955 and 1959, with postings at the Great Lakes Naval Dental Research Institute and in Morocco. In 1961, Bill received his BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. In 1962, after receiving a Nation Institute of Health fellowship in research physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, he joined IBM where he attended the IBM Systems Research Institute and enjoyed a career of almost thirty years in industry development. He was also an active member and leader of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). After his retirement from IBM, Bill joined and was a Principal at Computer Sciences Corporation. Bill greatly enjoyed his professional career and relished the international travel that went with it. Time in Australia, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia, as well as many other countries, made a lasting impression on him and made for many happy memories. He also enjoyed his time at home and with his family, working in the yard, playing tennis and bicycling and was an avid reader and wine collector. He loved fishing both in waders in the Chattahoochee and on annual fishing trips to Steinhatchee, FL and Montauk, NY. In July 1997, Bill sustained a high level spinal cord injury while out on a bicycle ride. His response to this challenge was an inspiration to his family and friends. He became proficient in using voice dictation technology to keep up his correspondence and card playing and he never ceased to strive to improve his abilities. After his injury, Bill maintained a dedicated physical regimen including regular swimming in the Shepherd Center pool. Bill loved playing cribbage, bridge and poker with new and old friends and took great pleasure in his yard and the many birds that visited. Bill was a most unique and interesting man and he will be sorely missed. Bill was so appreciative of the great friendship and support by his fishing/poker and IBM friends as well as other old and new friends he and Harriet shared. Bill is survived by his wife, Harriett A. Robinson (Bill and Harriett were fortunate enough to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary in July of this year); daughter, Andrea A. Robinson and husband John D.
