Albert Charles Richard

Albert Charles Richard, 87 of Deltona, FL, formerly of Miami FL, Schererville IN, Tinley Park IL, and Chicago, IL passed away late in the day, March 12, 2019 surrounded by his beloved children Jerry, Mark and Deborah. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae (Babe), parents; P.E. Richard and Alma Richard, and brother Edwin Richard.
Born in Chicago, IL in 1931, served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War training artillery officers. After finishing his tour of duty he met and married the love of his life Shirley Mae White with whom he was married to for 61 years. After marrying Shirley he finished his degree in Chemistry from Iowa State.
He started his professional career at Sherwin-Williams as a Chemist and was promoted several times until he was made Plant Manager. After turning down a move to Cleveland, OH, he started working for Pullman Standard in quality control for rail cars. When Pullman Standard shut down he and Shirley decided to move to Miami, FL to be close to his parents and brother, Ed. He remade himself into a computer and IT professional working for Dade County, starting at the bottom and working his way up the ladder until he retired as a programmer.
In addition to his family, his passion came from fraternal organizations; Toastmasters, American Management Association, United States Power Squadron (District Commander), the Masons (32nd degree), and the Shriners with whom he transported hundreds of children from Miami to Tampa for treatment.
He was also passionate about his Churches, volunteering for numerous positions over the years and loved to sing in the choir.
He was an accomplished equestrian, jumping horses while in high school at Morgan Park Military Academy - winning many blue ribbons, an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast, motor home enthusiast traveling in his "Urban Assault Vehicle" as it was nicknamed, and never missed a minute of Fox News during his spare time.
He was a great friend to many, including Fred "Bud" Hills and family who he was friends with for his entire life.
He always told us he Loved us. Survivors include his loving family: sons Jerry (Diane) of Crystal Lake, IL and Mark (Lisa Courtney) of Plantation, FL and daughter Deb Richard of Deltona; grandchildren Brittany Tolmie (Billy), Amanda McCrimmon (Sean), Devin Richard, Sean Richard, Paige Workman and Brook Richard, and great-grandchildren Alex, Cheryl, Hailey Mae, Autumn, and Lily Mae.
The Memorial takes place at the Lakeside United Methodist Church, 121 North Henderson Lane, Sanford, Fl. April 6th with a 12:00 PM gathering, followed by a 12:30 PM service.

Al will be remembered for his devotion to United States Power Squadrons and for making its members comfortable in all their endeavors. I wish I had known more about his background for we would have had much more to talk about. I was glad to have seen Al, and Shirley when she was alive, at many of our USPS District meetings.
