

After graduating from high school, David enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam. He later graduated from Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, TX. He retired as a minster for the Church or Christ after preaching for over 50 years. He enjoyed leading singing, teaching Bible Classes and conducted many fruitful Bible studies. He also served as a missionary in Tonga. David was a steadfast Christian who loved God, his family, and his friends.
David is survived by his wife of 14 years, Lyn and his children, Charlessa (Chad – SSG ARMY (Ret)) Grayslake, IL, Karen (Eddie – CAPT USN (Ret)) Madison, AL, and Brian (Amanda) Frisco, Texas, his brothers Clyde II (Virginia), Jerry (Magnolia AR) and his sister Mary Ann (Virginia). Seven grandchildren, Schylar Labeth, Ari Salazar, Zander Salazar, Hannah Springberg, Preston Springberg, Landon Coats, Grayson Coats and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
David was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years Wendy (Dalton), his father Clyde Coats, his mother Fola (Booth), his brother Charles, an infant brother Stephen and sister -in- law Margaret Coats.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Sanford Church of Christ, 1500 S. Park Avenue, Sanford, Florida 32771.
