Elba was born in Havana, Cuba on September 24, 1951. She graduated from Vanderbilt Catholic High School and then graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Nicholas State College.
She was married to Michael P. Matherne (deceased) on August 12, 1972.
Elba was an elementary school teacher for Seminole County Public Schools at Spring Lake Elementary for 30 years.
She had a passion for sewing, camping, and caring for her grandchildren.
Elba is survived by her children, Jennifer and Kent (Jamie); grandchildren, Rebecca, Makayla, Katie, Cody; great-granddaughter, Arianna; and siblings, Ricky Valdes and John Valdes (deceased).
A visitation will occur Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 10:00 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am at All Souls Historic Chapel 800 S. Oak Ave, Sanford, FL 32771. A reception will occur following the funeral mass from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel, 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, FL 32771.
