Emily has been a dear friend of mine for several years.  We first met at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in Altamonte Springs.  From the time I met her, I felt that she was my Christian mentor.  She embodied everything that a strong, faithful Christian woman should be.  We moved away from Orlando area 20 years ago, but Emily and I always kept in touch.  We were so sad to hear of her passing, and will miss her dearly.  Condolences to her family and friends. 

Ms. Emily was a dear family friend.  She and my father, Rev. Ralph Aker worked together in the Presbytery and I came to know her well.  We had the opportunity to re-connect recently and I know her to have been a true woman of God.  She was a roll model to many.  I will miss our phone conversations and cards. I had the privilege of knowing Emily for about 40 years, as we worked together on many different committees in Central Florida Presbytery. We roomed together at General Assembly in 1992, when we were co vice moderators (along with  Bob Dandridge) of our local COLA preparing for the next year, when Central Florida Prebytery would host GA. What a time we had, getting to know each other better. We remained friends long after that and on several occasions, I would pick Emily up in Maitland  and together we would drive to Orange City to have lunch with Bob Dandridge! She was there to attend my retirement luncheon in 2018 and after she moved to SC, we talked on the phone at least monthly. I was blessed to have  had such a saint in my life and was so grateful that we were able to talk the week before she died. At that time, she said she was “tired” and we talked about our next meeting- the big one! Well done thou good and faithful servant!

I first met Emily at Winter Park Presbyterian Church when I was very young. When my family and I became charter members at St. Mark’s I was just 13 years old and always was fond of Emily and her mom, Ida Charles. They were both so sweet and kind. Emily was a faithful servant and an inspiration to us all at St. Mark’s for many years. I always looked up to her. She was a huge part of our St. Mark’s family and like a mother to us all.  Emily was a leader dedicating her time and talents throughout the years to help make St. Mark’s a loving place to worship together. Emily was there to serve and that she did for many years. I could always count on Emily’s guidance, knowledge and advice all the years I served as an elder. I feel very blessed to have known Emily for so many years and that my children and grandchildren were able to meet such a remarkable woman. She is very special to us all and will live on in our memories forever.

My late husband, the Rev. Donald E. Swope, and Emily worked together in Central Florida Presbytery for many years.  Don always spoke highly of Emily, of her faith, her love of church, of her zeal for the work of the presbytery.  My sympathy to her family.  

There was no St. Mark’s without Mrs. Wood! All my church memories involve her. She was always kind. I especially remember how she cared for her mother, Mrs. Charles, who I also adored. My mom, Linda, and my dad, Glenn worked with her or Mr. Wood on many committees at the church. Thank you Mrs. Wood for the example of service and kindness.
