There are some people whose love is felt in the little things—a warm smile, a helping hand, a family gathering filled with laughter, or simply knowing they would always be there. Francisco “Pop” Martinez was one of those people.
Frank passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the age of 76, leaving behind a lifetime of memories that will forever be treasured by those who loved him.
Born on December 28, 1949 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Juan and Rosalina Martinez, Frank spent his early childhood with his large family before moving to the Bronx, NY, in 1955. Growing up with seven other siblings taught him the importance of loyalty, resilience, and looking out for one another—qualities that defined the man he became. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings Jesús, Carmen, and José. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Ismael, Rosalina, Catalina, and Margarita.
Pop believed in honest work and giving his best every day. He worked for many years as a die setter and painter at Edison Price, where he proudly stood beside his coworkers, walking the picket line in support of fair wages and better working conditions. Later, he retired from Chatham Metal Working, helping prepare Madison Square Garden for concerts and sporting events that brought joy to thousands.
But if you asked Frank what his greatest accomplishment was, he wouldn’t talk about work. He would tell you about his family.
Through his sister Rosie, he met the love of his life, Sandra. What began as an introduction became a lifelong partnership built on love, respect, and unwavering devotion. Together they raised three sons—Michael, Francisco Jr., and Jeffrey—creating a home filled with laughter, encouragement, and unconditional love.
Nothing made Pop happier than having his family together. Birthday parties, vacations, cheering from the stands at sporting events, or simply spending time with his grandchildren were the moments he treasured most. He was a proud grandfather to Viannie, Michael, Brianna, Victoria, Lucille, and John, each of whom held a very special place in his heart.
Pop found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved paddleball and handball, shooting hoops, riding his bicycle—especially to the beach—and relaxing with an occasional Corona beer. Whether he was sharing stories, making people laugh, or enjoying a beautiful day outdoors, he had a way of making ordinary moments feel special.
His faith was an important part of his life. As an usher at St. Anselm’s Church on Tinton Avenue in the Bronx, Frank quietly served others with kindness, humility, and a welcoming spirit. He never sought recognition; he simply believed in doing what was right and helping wherever he could.
Frank leaves behind his devoted wife, Sandra; his beloved sons, Michael, Francisco Jr., and Jeffrey; his cherished grandchildren, Viannie, Michael, Brianna, Victoria, Lucille, and John; his siblings Ismael, Rosalina, Catalina, and Margarita; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were blessed to know him.
The Martinez family extends their heartfelt gratitude to every friend, family member, caregiver, and healthcare professional who offered comfort, compassion, and support during Frank’s illness. A special thank you is given to Caesar, whose kindness, friendship, and dedicated care brought peace and comfort to Frank during his final weeks.
Although our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Pop’s greatest gift was the love he gave so freely. He taught us that family comes first, that hard work matters, and that kindness leaves a lasting legacy.
His laughter will echo in our memories. His wisdom will guide us. His love will remain with us always.
Pop may no longer walk beside us, but he will forever live in our hearts.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
