Gary was a friend of my husband.  They played a lot of golf together and whenever he came home from a game from Gary, he shared all of the funny stories that Gary had told him.  He was a delightful person and I, too, enjoyed knowing him.

While I was so very sad to hear of Gary's passing, I also can smile knowing Heaven has gained a wonderful new soul.  I worked with Gary at Apple and had been in contact with him recently as I have a non-profit focused on advocating science and technology to Christian believers. Even through all of his professional accomplishments, he has always been such a gracious and humble man, always sure to give credit and thanks to God for any success he's had. He had an amazing curiosity and intellect and he will be so greatly missed.  His work and inventions have impacted millions, if not billions, and I'm grateful to have known him.  May God bless him richly in Heaven and may his family have peace and remember him fondly.

I interviewed with Gary before I joined PARC in late 1978.  I was enamored with his brilliant, enthusiastic approach to his work; infectious to all in the lab.  He was 'the" giant in the digital printing revolution but as unassuming as the everyday Joe you'd meet at the hardware store.  It will be a long time before his selfless contributions become outdated.  

Goodby Gary and thank you for making the world a much better place. 

I was inspired by Gary  when we worked together at Microsoft Research.  He was always gracious and an invaluable sounding board. A briliant mind and fine human being.
