I miss you Gram. Thank you for always being there for us when we needed you. I will always remember your delightful smile, your beautiful blue eyes and your sense of humor. I'll never forget when we played Bingo together and you were playing 10 cards and I was playing 2 and you telling me - "hey you missed a number!" I am truly blessed to be married to the most wonderful man in the world, your son Peter! May you rest in eternal peace. Love you, Chivon

Dear Grandma Dechelle,

I always got a kick out of seeing you next to your daughter, Madelyn, next to my wife, Jill, because with those three of you in a row, I saw spitting images of the same person in different stages of life.

All three of you: strong, beautiful and crafty. I was warned before I first met you that you would not mince words. When Grandma Dechelle didn’t like something, she would let you know. This was true. I saw it every time we played bingo with you and the caller failed to call the number you needed. 🙂

However, I also saw this same trait demonstrate itself when you were pleased too. I saw it when you laughed at one of my jokes or thanked me for opening your door. You appreciated kindness and I hope you felt it from me during our times together.

I want to thank you, Helen, for caring for me, for giving birth to one of the most important people in my life, Madelyn, and for passing along your feistiness to your grand-daughter, Jill. You are with us even as we are apart.

Thank you and may eternal peace and love surround your soul.

As a preteen growing up in Riviera Beach I remember visiting the Dechelles in Miami (?) . I remember Aunt Helen as a flaming red head - a look I've also adopted in adulthood. I always thought she was very pretty and very nice to us. There were some good family bonds formed backed then that enforced the continued importance of family with your siblings even when you've made it into adulthood. Good times and good memories for me. I pray she is in the hands of God and her heavenly family of those that were their to greet her.

This woman. Helen Irene Dechelle. My Grandma. Stubborn, competitive and with a zest for life, at almost 96 years old, I was pretty sure she was going to outlive us all. Sad to say COVID got her. She passed away on Friday. There is much to miss and many memories to celebrate - including our Bingo binges. She always lit up when we came into town and agreed to go along. See that smile below? It's because she was winning. She ALWAYS won. You are loved and will be missed. Peace be with you. XO

There are no words to explain how much I miss talking to you. I think about you everyday, but now I don't have to worry if you are OK. I know that God has a special place for you. I imagine that you have been reunited with your brothers and sisters, as well as Bob and Dad. I know they have been waiting for you, and they are happy to see you again.

I hope they have Bingo in Heaven, and I bet you are already the Queen for the month.

I am sure the angels are making you piping hot coffee all the time, and bring you Peanut M & M's.

Please keep an eye on me so I stay on the right path. I'll keep working to make you proud. Say hi to everyone for me, I'll see ya soon enough.

I love ya......Pete.
