Hugh John Moore of Longwood, Florida passed away at the age of 72, on May 28, 2026. With God’s grace he carried the burden of cancer with remarkable strength, dignity, and faith for many years before entering a brief but difficult final season of illness, after which he entered into the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior.
Hugh was born in Stone, Staffordshire, England, UK to Jack and Barbara Moore on January 13, 1954. Hugh was an active and faithful member of Community Methodist Church in Casselberry, Florida, and joyfully served his church through music ministry, a calling that deeply enriched his life.
Hugh completed his formal education in England, UK. Hugh attended John Mason High School in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Psychology and Electronic Engineering from University of Southampton and a Master’s degree in Organization and Telecommunications from Aston University.
Hugh married Kathy Moore on Dec 30, 2017 in Longwood, Florida. He was a devoted husband and also a proud father and grandfather.
Hugh held multiple executive leadership roles throughout his distinguished career, starting as Vice President at GEC Plessey Telecommunications in the United Kingdom, then as Vice President of Stromberg Carlson in the United States until its acquisition by Siemens AG. At Siemens, Hugh served as Vice President of Field Service and later as Vice President of Logistics, contributing to major international initiatives driven from corporate headquarters in Munich, Germany. His career at Siemens AG culminated with his appointment as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and chairman of the US-based CIO leadership.
Hugh was a founding member of the Central Florida chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM) and served as President of its Board of Directors. In 2000, he was named its CIO of the Year honoring his leadership in advancing and promoting innovative IT solutions. He later received SIM’s Lifetime Achievement Award and was an inaugural inductee into the SIM Central Florida Hall of Fame.
Hugh shifted from the corporate world to that of academia when he joined Seminole State College in 2009 as an adjunct professor, where he sought to fulfill a passion to develop future leaders. He was soon appointed Dean of the Center for Business, Legal Studies and Entrepreneurship, with responsibilities for the Center’s faculty and thousands of students enrolled in that program. His extensive executive expertise proved invaluable in his mentoring of students to equip them for their careers, modeled on Hugh’s own dedication to community engagement and professional development.
Hugh retired in 2019, after which he dedicated his time and talents to becoming more involved in the Methodist church, lay leadership, music ministry, and traveling the world with Kathy, his devoted soulmate and wife.
Hugh John Moore was preceded in death by his father Jack Moore and his mother Barbara Cheers. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Moore; brother Ian Moore; sister Janet Corcoran; daughter Jemma (Josh) Collins; son Tom Moore; three stepchildren Christopher (Audrey) Hayes, Taiana (Michael Phillips) Hayes, Shaina (Nathan) Swanson; and seven adoring grandchildren. Hugh was a man who believed deeply in community and is also leaving behind many beloved friends who have become family through the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the existing Hugh Moore/ SIM Central Florida Scholarship at Seminole State College, to celebrate the dedication that Hugh and Kathy Moore shared for higher education, and the college where they met and began their lives together.
