Jan was born on March 22, 1952, in Hialeah, Florida, to William Charles Stanley, Sr. and Olivia Ray Stanley (Armstrong). She was raised in Florida and later attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, where she studied accounting. She eventually moved to the Orlando area with her former husband, Michael Dowd, where she built both her career and her family.
Jan worked as an accountant for more than 30 years with PM Group/HBM/Argo Advisors, where she was known for her dedication, reliability, and sharp mind. Numbers came easily to her, but people mattered most.
Known lovingly as "Grammy" to her grandkids and kids, she found her greatest joy in her family. She loved spending time with her 7 grandkids, reading a good book, and caring for her kitties. Her home was a place of comfort, humor, and unconditional love.
Jan is survived by her daughters, Kimberly O’Brien (Joe), Carolyn Bonaventura (Adam), and Kathryn Leigh; and her grandchildren: Nathan Leigh (17), Andrew Bonaventura (11), Katelyn Bonaventura (9), Eric Bonaventura (6), Emily O’Brien (6), Hudson O’Brien (3), and Hailey O’Brien (3). She is also survived by her nephew, Chuck Stanley ("Chuckie"). She is also remembered with love by many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, William Charles Stanley, Jr. (“Chuck”), who passed away earlier in 2025.
Jan was diagnosed with glioblastoma on August 22, 2025. She faced her illness with remarkable bravery, resilience, humor, and grace. While the disease took much from her body, it never took what made her who she was—her warmth, her wit, her strength, and her deep love for those around her. She even adopted her caregivers, Sandy and Shawn, who quickly became part of our family. Jan had a wonderful gift of making everyone she met feel loved and special.
We are profoundly grateful for the life Jan lived and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and in the countless quiet ways she shaped the lives of those who knew her. She will be missed beyond words and carried forward in everything we do.
