He was born on June 21, 1944 in Queens, New York, a son of the late Nilzo and Daisy Ferrari Schiavi.
Neil was a Catholic by faith and a strong Republican who loved his country. Neil did not qualify to serve in the Army due to being the only financially supporting person in his family, however when his son, Chris joined in 1991, Neil was extremely proud. As a way to contribute to his community, Neil served as a volunteer firefighter in New York. Neil retired as a diesel mechanic and had worked at a number of garages in the Brentwood, New York area, and Entenmann’s Family Bakery delivery trucks in Longwood, New York. His children fondly remember dad bringing home fresh donuts from Entenmann’s Bakery. During 1987, Neil moved to Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer hunting, his pet dog, and cheering on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Neil is survived by his two sons, Neil Jr. and his wife, Carlie and Chris and his wife, Vanessa; a sister, Laura Lavin and her husband, Jim; four grandchildren Dominic, Anthony, Brandon and Gavin; a nephew, Frank Cicalease and a niece, Cynthia Lavin.
Neil’s request for Cremation has been honored with Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, in Sanford, Florida. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
We at Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn Funeral Home; 5000 County Road 46A; Sanford, Florida are honored and privileged to serve the family of Neil Joseph Schiavi.
