

Jamaica on December 24 1941. He was a graduate of the Mico Teachers' College (now the
Mico University) in Jamaica, an honors graduate of Howard University in the United States
and a diplomate of The Institute for Advanced Technical and Vocational Training, in Italy. He has been a teacher, civil servant, banker and restaurateur and worked for nearly thirty years as a manufacturing executive with a Fortune 500 American multi-national corporation. He has lived and worked in the Caribbean, Canada, the United States and East and Southern Africa. He was retired and resided in Florida.
While in retirement, Owen enjoyed reading, writing, walking, cruising, travel, playing golf, and above all, spending time with his granddaughters, Brianna and Gabrielle.
Owen has written and published the following books: Jamaican By Birth American By Choice;
Brackets-A Book Of Poems; Sufferer's Manifesto; Pebbles And Pearls; and Jamaica’s Visionary Experimental Secondary Classes 1954 -1960. He is survived by his wife Icilda (Icy), sons Gordon and Gregory, daughter-in law Tracia (Wendy), granddaughters Brianna and Gabrielle as well as siblings and other family members.
Most of you may be aware that Owen was very involved in making sure among other charities, that poor children in Jamaica get the opportunity for a good education. He was very instrumental in setting up a non-profit organization to give scholarships and aid to need based students who chose teaching as a career at his alma mater Mico University College in Jamaica.

to which Owen has already pledged the sum of US$50,000.00 to be given by the family at his death to initiate “The James Family Endowment Fund”.
