

Peggy M. Johnson of Sanford passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026 at the age of 92. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Pound, Virginia where she grew up as one of eight children. She worked as a Cosmetologist and owned her own business in Sanford for more than 50 years.
She was an active member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church for many decades and served on the Altar Guild and was a member of St Mary’s Guild. She and her husband, Larry were both active in many social, civic, and political organizations in Sanford and Seminole County.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lauren (Larry) ; parents, Dewey & Clorine Meade; siblings, Jackie Skeen, Sandy Elam, Douglas Meade, Donald Meade, Patricia Pearce, and Betty Robinson.
She is survived by her son David; Daughters, Martha Griggs (Wade), Karen Barbour, Sheila Sanders (Jeff); sister Linda Gardner (Roger); many grandchildren and great- grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Peggy was part of the “Greatest Generation” and lived in relatively good health except for the last few months. Through life’s many happy times and challenging ones, she maintained her elegance, sense of who she was, independence, outspokenness, pragmatism, deep faith, and love. She and Larry worked hard to make sure that their children were well educated and equipped with the skills necessary to be successful. Her personal motto was to give more to society than you took from it. Her quiet and deep faith kept her and her family grounded.
Peggy was very blessed to be cared for by a number of dedicated healthcare professionals and staff as she navigated life in her later years.
Services will be private.
