Ronald D. Turturro was born on July 29, 1959 in New York City to Anna and Nicholas Turturro. The youngest of three, he was preceded in birth by his two elder siblings, Eileen and Dominick Turturro. As the son of second-generation Italian immigrants, Ronnie grew up in the Little Italy neighborhood of Manhattan. He enjoyed playing stickball with his friends and his Mom’s home cooking in particular. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Chelsea High School. Ron inherited his father’s knack for repairing cars, and, well, just about anything else! These skills parlayed into a lifetime of interesting projects. Ron completed a successful career as a professional tractor-trailer driver as well as a nine-year period working in the tradeshow industry.
Ron met the love of his life, Marina, while dancing. They went on to be married for 40 years, and raised four children together: Natalie, Nicholas, Christopher, and Michael. A loving husband and father, Ron was a pillar of strength for his family who always knew they could count on him, in good times or in bad. He was an ardent provider for his family–his work ethic was second to none. There were many years where he hardly had any time off, working holidays and weekends to support his family. Ron taught his children that if something breaks, who better than you to learn how to fix it? Subsequently, his children have all gone on to have successful careers using these hands-on skills and self-starter attitudes, exemplified and taught to them by their dad.
Ron was a film buff, and there was hardly a classic movie he hadn’t seen. He had a fantastic sense of humor, and his infectious laugh would echo throughout the house when he watched his favorite comedies. Ron’s love of good food led him later in life to become a talented cook who could whip up a five-star meal from whatever was left in the fridge. He was a discerning shopper and adept at hunting down unique treasures, which came in quite handy when building his vintage pinball and slot machine collection, and when searching for all the minuscule parts needed for his other hobby as an horologist. For Ron, a little slice of heaven on earth was to spend time with his beloved children. He enjoyed being poolside or sitting peacefully at the beach listening to the waves crash upon the shore, going on adventures with Marina and playing a round of pool after a delicious meal with his family.
After a nearly decade-long battle with illness, Ronnie no longer needs a little slice of heaven on earth, for his soul has entered it. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-love and uncle, Ronnie’s tenacious spirit will live on in the hearts of his surviving relatives.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 5000 CR 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Epiphany Catholic Church, 201 Lafayette Street, Port Orange, Florida 32127 with interment to follow in Oaklawn Park Cemetery, 5000 CR 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771.
