Sandra Judith Colon

Sandra Judith (Alvarez) Colon, 49, passed away peacefully at her home in Sanford, Florida, on August 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous three and a half year battle with multiple myeloma.

Sandra was born on December 11, 1976, in Guayama, Puerto Rico, to Carlos E. Alvarez and Judith Lopez. She was raised alongside her two brothers, Carlos L. Alvarez and Otto J. Alvarez.

Sandra graduated from Seventy First High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1996. She later earned her associate’s degree and dedicated much of her professional life to caring for others. In January 2014, she obtained her Nurse Aid Certification for Long Term Care. During her time as a home healthcare professional with BrightStar Care, her compassion and dedication to those in her care earned her recognition as Caregiver of the Month in May 2017 and later the distinguished honor of Caregiver of the Year for 2017.

Sandra is survived by her parents, Carlos E. Alvarez and Judith Lopez; her brothers, Carlos L. Alvarez and Otto J. Alvarez; her daughter, Angelica Y. Ortiz and son-in-law, Matthew Ortiz; her son, Julio J. Colon; as well as extended family and many cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Marielena D. Vazquez.

A Celebration of Life honoring Sandra will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford, Florida.

In keeping with Sandra’s bright spirit and the beautiful smile for which she will always be remembered, family and friends are encouraged to celebrate her life by wearing colorful clothing rather than traditional black attire.

Those wishing to honor Sandra with flowers are welcome to send arrangements to Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford, Florida, to be delivered by the morning of her Celebration of Life on August 16, or arrangements may be sent to the family home.

Sandra’s life was defined by compassion, generosity, strength, and an unwavering love for her family and friends. Her beautiful smile and selfless spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
