He was born in Sanford, Florida, and spent the majority of his childhood hunting, fishing, and exploring the areas within Paola. In his teens, he and his father spent countless weekends together racing go-karts. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas.
Tom found joy in life's simple pleasures and the hobbies he loved most. He had a lifelong passion for auto racing, music, R/C airplanes, firearms, and aviation, and he especially enjoyed sharing those interests with his son.
Tom was the embodiment of a family man. As a single father, he put his son first in every way. Together, they spent countless hours building, tuning, and racing go-karts as part of their team, Generations Racing. It was a true family effort, with his father serving as the head mechanic and his son, Thomas Ashley, proudly driving. Eventually, father and son were able to race against each other in the same class. Those years created memories and a bond that would last a lifetime.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Doy "Sonny" Presley and Bobbie Jean Presley, and his sisters, Linda Byrd and Sandra Wright.
He is survived by his son, Thomas (Anna); grandchildren, Lainey (8) and Thomas (17 months); and numerous nieces and nephews.
His granddaughter, Lainey, was the sparkle in his eye and the spring in his step. He came into the role of "Poppa Tom" when she was four years old and never missed a beat. He could be counted on to be at school events, dance recitals, and cheer competitions, always making sure he had a sweet treat in his pocket for her and plenty of love.
His memory will live on through his namesake and beloved grandson, Tommy, who was his cherished "little buddy." Their favorite thing to do together was go in the backyard and watch the airplanes go by. No matter how silly he had to be, his greatest reward was Tommy's smile and laugh.
Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and devotion. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
