Vanchy Arleen Fedalis Chong-Sessoms, a beautiful caring soul, passed away unexpectedly on May 8th, 2016 at the age of 69. Vanchy is survived by her husband Sylvester Sessoms(Deltona, Fl), her children Gayle Chong Patrick(Jeffrey)(Norfolk, VA), Mark Atkinson(Jessica)(Deltona, Fl), a wonderful extended family Deon Taylor(Cathy)(Northern, VA), Sheree Sessoms(Philadelphia, PA) Junior Sessoms(Philadelphia, PA), Michael Seitz(Marisol)(Jacksonville, FL), Candice Seitz(John)(New Jersey), grandchildren Jasmine Legister, Mark Atkinson, Gilesa Patrick, Joshua Atkinson, Haryana Hendricks and great granddaughter Selene Legister of Deltona, FL, her mother Lucille, brothers Vernal(Marjorie) and Ervin(Sonya) and a number of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. She is predeceased by her father Austin and brother Cordinald. Vanchy was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Austin and Lucille Chong. She was the youngest of the four siblings and the only girl. She attended a catholic boarding school at an early age which helped mold her into the woman everyone came to know. Following her dream, she relocated to New York in her late teens attending Julia Richman High School enjoying all of the comforts of the city life. Vanchy then returned to Jamaica pursuing her continued education prior to returning to NYC. She recognized the potential of the computer field early and successfully worked in that capacity in corporate America until moving to Florida in 1984. She moved to Florida with her two children (both born in New York) by herself as a single parent after leaving an earlier marriage. While in Florida, she identified the overwhelming need in the nursing industry considering it was the “retirement state”. From that time, she transitioned out of corporate America and provided care to the elderly. Shortly after being in this field, the entrepreneurial spirit was awakened within her. She began an alternate care facility for the elderly adding a personal and caring touch often not found in large nursing home facilities. She successfully provided care for a myriad of patients with differing needs from physical limitations to Alzheimer disease. She carried on this venture for well over two decades until a short lived “retirement”. Vanchy was an extremely hard worker not ever sitting on her laurels. She quickly reentered the workforce in a lighter capacity privately providing care and companionship to others until the day she passed away. She genuinely loved and cared for everyone she interacted with. In 1993 while in Florida, she married Sylvester (Sly) Sessoms. Together they would love, laugh, cry and enjoy everyday life until the day she passed away. They not only shared a life together, but truly confided in each other sharing their most intimate secrets of lifetime experiences. She cared for him on a daily basis through sickness and health as a wife vows to do. Through this union, she was enthralled and immersed into a large family filled with love and adventure. She was accepted as one of their own and taught how things were done in Ahoskie, North Carolina. She became a spades and dominoes professional with many seeking her partnership. She was adept in sharing her accolades and would quickly remind you of her winning position at the conclusion of a game. As a matter of fact, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that she beat Sly 6 love during their last domino game. Vanchy was filled with love, always wanted the best for her children and cared for others before herself. If you had the pleasure of interacting with her, then you are certainly aware that she shared what was on her mind and there was no second guessing your position. She has always stressed that life is short and you don’t want to live with any regrets. Your age doesn’t matter…Live, Learn, Laugh and Dance. Always work to improve yourself, spend time with family and friends, appreciate and love each other. Rest in Peace our beautiful Angel. You now have eternal happiness.
