Lonnie recently relocated to Sanford from Ft. Myers, Florida and passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He was born in Saint Petersburg, Florida on September 28, 1958.
Lonnie was a devoted, son, grandson, brother, father, uncle, great uncle and friend. He loved his football from Pop Warner at K-Land in Miami, to High school football at Westminster Christian. It made his day when the undefeated Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl in 1972. He was a devoted Miami Hurricanes fan, especially when his cousin, Mike White played as center for the ‘Canes the mid seventies. In his youth, he was involved in his Sunday school and youth group at Kendall Presbyterian Church and loved his Westminster friends for life. After graduating from Westminster, he attended college at Mercer University in Macon Georgia and Tallahassee Community College.
His greatest accomplishment was becoming a father in 1996 to Ryan Chase Baker. Ryan is his pride and joy; they enjoyed going to Hurricanes, RedSox and NFL games, NASCAR races and eating good seafood together. He was a beloved uncle, but he really enjoyed spending time with his great nieces.
He is survived by his beloved son Ryan Baker, his devoted sisters, Keli Shaw (John), Darby Cooke (Paul) and Carrie Baker. He also was loved deeply by his nieces, nephews: Jeremiah Shaw (Jenny), Christopher Cooke (Olivia), Katie Pe’er (Asher), Courtney Slingo (Jordan), Caleb Cooke (Alexa), Noah Cooke, Hudson Shaw, Emma Cooke. Lonnie especially loved all his great nieces and great nephews: Lucy & Molly Shaw, Stella, Stasia, & KC Cooke, Liam Pe’er, Finley, Piper & Declan Slingo and James, Dani and Ellie Bea Cooke.
He is in the presence of his savior, whole and healed with a great crowd of witnesses celebrating with him, including his mother and father.
A graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sanford on August 17 at 10:00 a.m.
