William (Bill) Hurst Padgett, born on June 4, 1926, in Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 98. A beloved local figure in his community, Bill was the eldest son of John and Ida Padgett. Bill was predeceased by his cherished wife of 44 years, Jeanette Padgett, with whom he shared many happy years, as well as his brother John Padgett, and sister Alice Maxwell.
Bill’s unwavering sense of duty led him to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Pittsburgh, where he forged lifelong friendships and memories. After his time in the military, Bill dedicated 41 years’ service and leadership at Florida Power Corporation, a career marked by commitment and service.
After retirement, Bill found joy tending to his property in Osteen, where he enjoyed working in his yard. If you couldn’t find him in his yard tinkering with projects, he could be found at the local Osteen Diner, a gathering place where he enjoyed sharing stories, and laughter with friends. Bill's gentle spirit, enduring kindness, and dedication to family will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A small service in celebration of Bill’s life will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025, 10:00 am at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel & Cemetery, 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771.
