Carl was born in Randall, Kansas and was the 4th son and 7th of ten children born to Pearl St. John and Lena Bailey St. John. He graduated from Randall High School and then served as a Petty Officer 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1956. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from Orange Coast College and California State College in Long Beach with a B.S. Degree in accounting. He successfully passed the Certified Public Accountant examination. He was employed as an Internal Revenue Agent for 26 years, retiring in 1988. He then practiced as a CPA for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Veone St. John, sons Lindsey and Philip (Michele), daughters Stephanie (Corey) and Diane (Dennis), as well as by stepsons Kenneth Waldram and David Waldram (Connie), one sister, and several grandchildren.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
